THANK YOU!

Happy Holiday!  Lorain County Office on Aging and RSVP would like to thank you for all of the support you provide to non-profit organizations throughout Lorain County.  More than ever before, people are struggling with poverty, homelessness, hunger, and poor health.  You play a critical role in addressing these needs and improving the quality of life in the community.                                 THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!

RSVP IS PLAYING A KEY ROLE IN IMPROVING LIFE IN LORAIN COUNTY

As the New Year approaches RSVP, is getting a new look, to help us better respond to challenges facing many residents of Lorain County.  Due to the poor economy and recent cuts to important government & social services, many of your friends and neighbors may be struggling to make ends meet.  For example, did you know in Lorain County that:

  • 1 of every 6 people (including seniors) go to bed hungry every night

  • 27% of residents are barely getting by & living paycheck to paycheck

  • Veterans often struggle when they come home & make up a large percentage of homeless persons

  • Children are not gaining all of the skills & supports needed to succeed in school & life

  • Adults are more likely to struggle with treatable, chronic and disabling health conditions, like diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity and chronic pain

  • Many isolated seniors are skipping medical appointments because they have no way of getting there

In the coming months, Lorain County RSVP will be expanding its focus to play more of a central focus in addressing these community needs.  The core focus areas that RSVP will be expanding to address Lorain County needs include:

  • Improving Economic Opportunity for Lorain County Residents – For example, RSVP volunteers offer free tax filing services to low income residents and help veterans develop job readiness skills needed to obtain long-term employment.

  • Improving Education Success of Lorain County Children – Volunteers currently assist in classrooms, read to children and provide much needed tutoring services.

  •  Helping People Prepare for Disasters – RSVP volunteers distribute Emergency Management Be-Prepared Kits and help vulnerable seniors develop disaster plans, in case of emergency.

  • Environmental Stewardship- Volunteers protect the environment by conducting recycling drives throughout the Lorain County.

  • Promoting Healthy Futures- Volunteers improve the health & well-being of Lorain County residents by delivering meals, supporting food pantries, and teaching chronic disease management.

Due to the large number of health and well-being issues facing many Lorain County residents, RSVP will be taking a primary role in providing support to ensure the Healthy Future of our community.
