Our Story

The History of How LCOOA Was Founded

Fifty years ago, a group of concerned citizens came together following the 1971 White House Conference on Aging to form the Senior Citizens Association of Lorain County. Among their first priorities were establishing a Consumer Affairs Committee, addressing transportation needs, and developing the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).

Over the years, programs and services have been added and some have evolved, but what has never changed is the unwavering commitment to ensuring that resources, support, and advocacy are in place to meet the needs of Lorain County's older adults.

We are honored to continue the efforts of these early activists and look forward to the next fifty years of service.

None of the work we do would be possible without the dedication and support of our Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and donors who believe in our mission. You are an integral part of creating an equitable, engaged community for Lorain County's seniors.

With Tremendous Gratitude,
